Too Connected?
My wife says, with good reason, that if I went without access to the internet for more than 48 hours, I’d be wrapped up in a fetal ball in the corner of my room in convulsions.
I just realized today how “connected” I am. I left my house at 6:45 this morning and I’m sitting downtown Chicago as I write this. I’m watching them build the new Trump building where the old Sun Times building was. Here is how my day has been:
6:45 left house.
6:55 stopped at McDonalds. Logged on to the internet.
7:15 left McDonalds. Drove to Amtrak station at Airport
7:45 Sat in my car, on my Blackberry, sending emails and IM’ing.
8:00 Got out of my car and went to train.
8:10 Left on train.
8:11 Resumed emailing and IM’ing on my Crackberry
8:20 Fired up the laptop. Started watching “It’s a Wonderful Life”, but continued the IM’ing and emailing on Crackberry.
9:30 Arrived in Chicago. Walked 3 blocks, got on the EL, Walked 4 blocks to where I am now.
9:55 On the free Wi-Fi at the Corner Bakery.
So, since I’ve left the house today, I’ve NOT been “connected” for about an hour and most of that was while I was driving. Yeah, I might have a problem.
